Le Homage a la Vessie — Exhibition
Le Homage a la Vessie/El Homenaje a la Vejiga/Homage to the Bladder by Elisa de la Roche are new works in sculpture and video centering around the human body: the physical and emotional response to change and loss; the intersection of art, identity, and illness.
My work begins in the gut, the brain of the gut. If something feels raw and uncomfortable, that is the place I need to explore, often using found and recycled objects, and a combination of simple, common materials. In this series of works I incorporate medical equipment in new ways. The conceptual interests found in my work include the journey from illness to wellness; playfulness and joy juxtaposed with suffering; music and movement expressed in line and form; the environment and conservation; justice and equity.
